Part 2: Ovarian Cancer — Reality Dawns

Yesterday was day 2 in our journey with this news. I think it’s fair to say that the reality of the situation is dawning on us all and in particular Angela. It is noticeable to me that she is wanting to spend more time with us, her family and there are small things which, under normal circumstances would not be important, which are now important.

Yesterday we had lunch and were sitting outside chatting when Angela said, you know I heard someone complaining about how well their eggs were cooked today — and it made me think, that’s the kind of thing I would do but now it seems so irrelevant.

We talked a lot about the future today and her dreams and plans which I believe she found comforting.

I am far from being qualified to help anyone but I have learnt today that listening is a good skill to have in this situation. That, alongside the power to dream with your friend or family member about the future. When everything is so uncertain, finding things which are real and which Angela can focus on are so important.

I heard back from 4th Angel last night too (http://www.4thangel.org/), the group of amazing people who offer mentorship to cancer patients and their carers.. It’s great to know, I reached out to a total stranger and when I received a response I felt so calmed by it. The lady who wrote to me explained that the service is in America and speaking may be difficult because the mentor they provide may not be able to call however, all these things can be overcome. The team at 4th Angel are looking for a match for us and I hope they will be able to find one. I’m so grateful to these amazing people.

I’ll write more tomorrow. Have a wonderful day.
